SHORT GUIDE TO BUYING PREEMIE CLOTHING

1. Check sizing! "Preemie" size does not ensure that the clothing will fit your child. Is your baby: Micro (1-3lbs), Preemie (3-6lbs), or Newborn (5-8lbs)?

2. Make sure to choose items of clothing that are made of soft fabrics. This is especially important for preemies of Micro size and smaller, who have very sensitive skin.

3. Clothing should be easy to take on and off! Make sure there are openings that allow for the various hospital tubes/wires required in preemie care.

4. WARMTH! It is always important to make sure that your preemie is dressed in warm clothing to protect their body heat.

One size fits all does not truly fit all! Preemies come in all shapes and sizes, and their clothing should, too! The Preemie Store is the largest online store providing the different size options necessary for clothing and loving on America's premature babies. Ranging from Micro (1-3 LBS) to Preemie (3-6 LBS) to Newborn (5-8 LBS), the company strives to provide all preemies with clothing that fits, filling in the large gaps left by baby clothing chain stores today! Options include NICU-Friendly bodysuits, swaddles, and warmers as well as numerous other preemie gear and accessories to fulfill preemie needs. Feel free to check them out and support them!

*Preemie Store is a Preemium For Preemies recommended resource for clothing preemies but is not associated or affiliated with this website.*

Let's definitely not count Amazon out! With its wide variety of baby clothing and resources, one may find a lot of suitable options for preemie clothing at lower costs. For more information on specifically recommended preemie clothing found on Amazon, please take a look at the Amazon preemie onesies included in preemie care kits under the care kit tab or feel free to                                        .

A Canadian small business with big dreams of clothing the different preemies in the world, this preemie clothing store provides cute and minimalist preemie clothing options for premature babies. Because they specialize in clothing preemies, all of their clothing are NICU friendly and safe for small babies to wear. Some especially wonderful outfits include their NICU Take Me Home Sets, which include a tee, foot, and hat set to keep your precious little one warm! *Again, the Itty Bitty Baby Boutique is in no way affiliated or associated with this website.*

Suggestions for NICU Essentials

While different hospital NICU's may provide or recommend different articles of clothing, a suggested preemie article of clothing would be the onesie and a hat. It is extremely important to keep preemies warm while comfortable during their stay at the NICU. A NICU Crochet Octopus could be a wonderful first friend to your preemie in the NICU, so their hands could wrap around the little friendly Octopus legs instead of the NICU tubes. Make sure to check with your NICU on whether or not Crochet Octopi are allowed.

Preemie General Clothing Needs

There are a variety of preemie clothing options sold on the shop links above, some of the most recommended include the gowns, swaddles, & sleep sacks, swaddlers, and hats. A sound machine with womb sounds and a rocker could also be some essentials to helping your little one fall fast asleep. However, it is important to note that not all preemies are the same. Please consult with your pediatrician or doctor concerning the most appropriate preemie clothing articles for your baby as well as any other important questions you may have.

Helpful Preemie Accessories

Skin care is an essential part of caring for any sized baby, please make sure to consult with your doctor or pediatrician on options for your preemie's skin! Some developmental toys and playtimes are also recommended, to help your preemie become exposed to different colors, patterns, shapes, and textures at their individual developmental stages or prepare for others. Remember, all babies, no matter the size, are different! Please do not feel the need to compare! Feel free to look through the links below for some more guidance. Again, consult your pediatrician or doctor if unsure!

Healthy Preemie Memories

It's important to keep a journal or diary of feelings and memories associated with your premature baby in order to keep yourself mentally healthy! Be strong for your preemie! And remember, you're not alone. We're here for you, please contact us with any prayer requests you have or feel free to use the Connect Me Page to get connected with preemie parents in an atmosphere of moral support.

Crocheting or Knitting are wonderful alternatives through which one can keep busy to prepare for the return of a beloved preemie from the NICU or to donate to local hospital NICU's in need of warm clothing for their preemies! Making hats, octopi, and little blankets are wonderful ways to help support preemies and their families. Below are some stitching patterns and videos I have found to make the most beautiful and easy preemie articles of clothing. Note! It's okay if you do not know how to crochet! We have a step-by-step guide that will fill you in on all that you need to know. You'll have it down in no time. Practice makes perfect :).

The versatility and style of this beautiful preemie hat pattern will allow it to fit the head of almost every preemie!

This crochet pattern is one that has been developed and molded from 'Preemie Crochet Pattern #1', which belongs to Oombawka Design Crochet. This pattern allows for a more braided hat look, which adds a beautiful touch to a preemie hat.

This crochet pattern is also one that has been developed and molded from 'Preemie Crochet Pattern #1', which belongs to Oombawka Design Crochet. The difference between this pattern and the original pattern is the ending, which allows for extra flexibility, so the extra rows can be bended over to fit any preemie's head!
